Overview

Dwight-Englewood School (D-E) seeks a creative educator who will support student leadership in the role of Assistant Director for Student Life beginning August 2024.

At D-E, “academic experience, central to the purpose of the school, must be complemented by a lively, creative, and dynamic co-curricular program in order to provide a complete education. In fact, students can only work to their fullest capacity when they are allowed to pursue activity outside the classroom and stimulate other parts of their minds and souls. A healthy, positive and deep connection to their school is what maximizes their achievement, garnered by the support of the adults around them and the friendship and love of their peers.”

Reporting to the Dean of Student Life, the Assistant Director will work closely with students, parents, teachers and staff, along with the administration.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Co-advise the Student Activities Board and assist with school activities and student leadership training.
  • Manage the volunteering database and assist with logistics of service-learning events and activities.
  • Assist with managing school meetings and assemblies, particularly ones designed by student organizations.
  • Manage Cum Laude, Lifers Ceremony, and Awards events.
  • Administrative needs: submit field trip transportation requests, space booking and event setup forms; ensure that all vendors/organizations are being paid in a timely fashion; manage money
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Team, Dining Services, Business Office, Technology Office, Communications Office and Upper School administrative team for curricular and co-curricular programming.
  • Assist in organizing the ninth grade orientation program and manage logistics of retreat.
  • Manage logistics regarding senior spring programming (selectives, trips etc), commencement week activities and other special events

Qualifications and work habits:
  • A self-starter who takes initiative, is interested in working closely with students, and providing appropriate guidance while students “learn by doing”
  • Relational leadership style that maintains calm during the most challenging moments. Strong listening, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Technologically savvy. Skilled in Google Suite, should be able to draft and respond to emails quickly, manage social media accounts and use Wordpress.
  • Flexibility and ability to juggle multiple projects and ability to balance and prioritize work.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and deadline driven.
  • Ability to manage money, make payments, deposits, reports, and ensure that all vendors/organizations are being paid in a timely fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions that result in innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of good practices in anti-bias and anti-racist education, experiences with diverse students, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and discretion

Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time, exempt administrative position beginning one week before the faculty arrives and ends one week after the end of the school year.
  • Attendance required at faculty meetings and other school wide meetings.
  • Work day may be extended as needed for school events, including some weekends and evenings. This includes a fall, overnight retreat with the 9th grade.
