Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is Hiring a Managing Director Near Los Angeles, CA

The mission of the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is to improve the well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities, advance social and economic justice, and eradicate pressing societal problems in complex and culturally diverse urban environments throughout Southern California, the nation, and the world. Our mission is achieved by providing students with experiential, practice, and competency-based learning, and culturally responsive training that is informed by evidence and best practices.

The Homelessness Policy Research Institute (HPRI), which is located at the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work and is a joint institute with the Sol Price School of Public Policy is seeking a Managing Director to advance the Institute’s strategic vision to accelerate equitable and culturally informed solutions to homelessness in Los Angeles County by advancing knowledge and fostering transformational partnerships between research, policy and practice. The Managing Director will work closely with the Director to advance this vision and will peform all day to day activities and responsibilities including those listed below. The ideal candidate will have either research or practice based experience in homelessness systems as well deep expertise and experience with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead staff person for all HPRI activities, including rapid response research, RFP services, research translation and policy outreach, and convenings.
  • Respond to media, serve on panels and other speaking engagements to present and synthesize the state of research on homelessness and highlight collabortive research efforts including the managing director’s own body of work.
  • In partnership with HPRI staff, HPRI steering committee and HPRI research committee (collaborative) co-create and guide HPRI’s strategic vision.
  • Supervise staff including a Project Administrator and provide mentorship and support to multiple graduate level research assistants; work closely with HPRI Research Scientist in supporting new and existing research partnerships.
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships across research, practice, lived experience communities; nurture HPRI collaborative membership growth.
  • Provide guidance, strategy and support of HPRI’s strategic priorities to express equity across all of our activities and to engage lived experience and service provider communities.
  • Grant stewardship and fundraising.
  • In partnership with Project Administrator, supervise the production of high-volume rapid response research. Establish and maintain close relationships with local policymakers to identify research needs and disseminate rapid response research to inform local policies and programs.
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management for all HPRI committees and working groups, including the research committee, and the Race Equity Committee, among others. Oversee the planning and production of HPRI research symposia and other events.
  • Help develop and strengthen policy outreach efforts, supporting the HPRI Director on policy outreach visits at the local, state, and national level.

This position is for a full-time, grant-funded position.

The annual base range for this position is $10,720.94 - $124,950.00.
