Powerhouse Operator – Coffee Point – Egegik, Alaska

E&E Foods is launching a search for a Seasonal Powerhouse Operator at our Coffee Point plant in Egegik, AK. This job requires an experienced powerhouse operator that has experience running, maintaining, and repairing CAT diesel engines. This position will oversee the operation of power generating equipment, including boilers, generators, or reactors. Ensures the regular monitoring, repair, and maintenance of power plant and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, and condensers. Finally, the successful candidate will be a team player with the ability to handle deadline driven environments.

The successful candidate:

The Seasonal Powerhouse Operator must have previous powerhouse operator experience, paralleling control system experience, (ComAp, Dief, Woodward) and switch board experience. They must be self-directed, well organized and comfortable in a diverse living and working environment. In addition, they must be willing to work in a remote location under, at times, challenging conditions 

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operation of power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems.
  • Controls and maintains auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feed water pumps, filters, to supply water,fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power.
  • Regulates equipment operations and conditions based on instrument data from controllers.
  • Starting or stopping generators, auxiliary pumping equipment, or other power plant equipment when necessary.
  • Records and compiles operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports.
  • Ensures regular maintenance of equipment, such as generators, pumps, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration is scheduled and completed.
  • Provides regulatory reporting as needed, at established intervals, based on readings from charts.
  • Inspects records or logbook entries or communicates with plant personnel to assess equipment operating status.
  • Places standby emergency electrical generators online in emergencies and monitors the temperature, output, and lubrication of the system.
  • Establishes cadence for examination and testing of electrical power distribution machinery and equipment, using testing devices.
  • Receives outage calls and requests necessary personnel during power outages or emergencies.
  • Operates or maintains distributed power generation equipment, including producing energy on-site for processing or other commercial purposes.
  • Communicate with other departments about what equipment they will be running that day.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC) and reading wire diagrams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· 3 years’ experience as a powerhouse operator

· Must be at least 18 years of age

· Must show availability to work in the USA

· Able to work with minimal supervision

· Able to take direction and respond to feedback

· Able to work in fast paced, deadline driven environment

· Must be able to stand, walk and work for 12 hours, 7 days a week.

Salary & Benefits: 

· The starting wage is $28.00 to $32.00 per hour.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT is weather dependent: ranging from warm and sunny to cold, windy and wet. Working outdoors in a remote environment is not an experience for everyone, and candidates should understand their limitations. People who struggle with mobility should consider employment in another department or a different industry. 

 

NATURE & HOURS OF WORK: The season runs from May to August. Hours and days of work are entirely dependent upon the Alaska Department of Fish & Game’s announced fishing openings, which are determined by pre-/mid-season predictions and actual fish movement. While we can't guarantee any definite number of hours, when the fishers are fishing, we are buying - this requires working on a shifting, tidal schedule and can run anywhere from nothing to more than sixteen hours per day, seven days a week. 

LIVING CONDITIONS: Our seafood processing facilities are a very remote part in Alaska. Housing – will have own room but shared bathroom facility. There are no health care options readily accessible. There is no cellphone signal and limited internet available. Communication is very limited.
