Overview

E2 is looking for a mid-level Distribution Engineer to join our team in our greater Portland or Salt Lake City area to support our major electric utility clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing overhead electrical distribution systems with the use of PLS-CADD Software. Projects include Pole Replacements, Covered Conductor Replacements, True Up Modifications, equipment upgrades, and Overhead-to-Underground conversions. The position will work under the direction of the senior engineer and will report directly to the Distribution Supervising Engineer or Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design and engineering calculations of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems to comply with the client’s standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS etc.).
  • Perform field evaluation of proposed installation sites as required.
  • Verify Bill of Materials meet the requirements of the design and client needs.
  • Design distribution projects with neatness and a small margin for error utilizing PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or Pole Foreman software.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop/flicker and pulling tension calculations.
  • Conduct electrical design review meetings and provide minutes.
  • Interface with project management and designers during the design phase.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the supervising engineer, client, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform careful quality review activities of junior engineers to ensure the quality of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 4-7 years of experience working in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience with distribution design and construction standards for PacifiCorp.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD Software.
  • Distribution planning work experience strongly preferred.
