HIRING SALARY RANGE: $62,310 - $79,259 per year

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $62,310 - $139,568 per year

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The district has funding for four years for two positions, an Early Literacy Coach in AVON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and an Elementary Literacy Coach in HOMESTAKE PEAK SCHOOL. Both of these schools are Dual Language (English/Spanish) schools. Early Literacy will play a role in advancing literacy education within these two schools by focusing on early literacy (K-3). This position involves providing targeted support to educators, co-teaching,facilitating professional learning, coordinating with State consultants, and ensuring that literacy initiatives align with state and local standards, including the READ ACT. The Instructional Coach will collaborate with the Comprehensive Early Literacy Grant consultant teachers, administrators, and other school and district staff to enhance instructional, curricula, and assessment practices to improve student outcomes.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teacher Support through co-planning, co-teaching, modeling and Professional Learning:

  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective instructional strategies in early literacy (K-3).
  • Develop and deliver differentiated professional learning opportunities to address the diverse needs of teachers in early literacy, elementary literacy and preschool, including multilingual learning, Special Education, Gifted and Talented, and the Multi-Tiered System of Support.

Curriculum and Instructional Planning:

  • Collaborate with teachers to align curriculum and instructional materials with state and local standards, including the READ ACT.
  • rovide guidance on best practices ensuring that instruction is inclusive and responsive to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Participate in sessions with State consultants and curricular resource roll-outs.

Special Education and Gifted and Talented Programs:

  • Collaborate with special education teachers to integrate instructional strategies that support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Provide guidance on differentiation for gifted and talented students, ensuring that their unique needs are addressed in the literacy curriculum.

Literacy Assessment:

  • Facilitate the implementation of state and local assessments in early literacy, ensuring alignment with curriculum and instructional goals.
  • Support teachers in analyzing assessment data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
  • Work with other coaches and teacher leaders to ensure best practices.


Professional Learning Coordination:

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate professional learning opportunities for teachers related to early literacy, elementary literacy, preschool programming, and literacy assessments.
  • Stay current with research and trends in literacy education to inform the development of relevant professional learning activities.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Foster a culture of collaboration among teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to enhance literacy instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with school leadership, teachers, and other staff to provide updates on literacy initiatives and progress.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership team (ILT), Standards Based Learning committee.
  • Participate as part of the MTSS team


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Interest in coaching teachers in a public-school setting.
  • Knowledge of best practice in assessment, instruction strategies, and current research.
  • Ability to analyze data and formulate instruction to maximize achievement for students with diverse abilities.
  • Ability to work with adult learners through delivery of professional development.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience preferred
  • Relevant Masters Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated instructional effectiveness
  • Demonstrated leadership skills within instruction and learning
  • Deep understanding of effective literacy instructional practices
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively
  • Successful experience as an educational leader in promoting professional growth among adults in instruction
  • Current CDE license in appropriate area (Elementary and/or Reading)


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Characteristics of the work environment are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a public school setting, both indoors and outdoors, in various sized spaces with varied numbers of adults, students, and patrons.


LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:

187 days


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The number of work hours and salary will be established by the Board of Education with the benefits and retirement that apply to certified personnel according to board of Education policy. It is the responsibility of the employee to attain and/or maintain appropriate licensure. This is a grant funded position.


EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policies that apply to licensed personnel.
