The primary responsibility of this role is to operate a diesel-powered, track driven, cold planer that grinds and removes existing asphalt structures for asphalt surface refinishing or surface repair. The operator must determine milling rate, control depth of cut, and speed/direction of chute discharging the ground asphalt.

· Operate machine controls, determining appropriate mill rate

· Must be able to perform physical duties of the job and be able to lift 50 lbs

· Must perform equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning and greasing the machine daily and performing service to the milling drum daily.

· May be required to perform other labor-related tasks

· Operate equipment in a safe manner

· Utilize operator controls to control direction and speed of machine to maneuver into operating position

· Determine appropriate mill rate (operating speed) based on depth of cut, aggregate type and bond strength

· Must have knowledge of the overall grade control system. Knowledge of in-depth settings and controls is a plus.

· Direct drivers or receiving trucks with regard to position, speed and capacity

· Perform pre-starting check of fluids (oil, coolant, etc.) and inspection for damage

· May be required to perform other labor/operator related tasks (based on experience, abilities, knowledge of incumbent and direction of Foreman) as necessary in assisting crew with job completion
