Fall River Public Schools – DRAFT Job Description

The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:

Position: Principal – Early Childhood Elementary

Job Description: The principal will lead teachers and staff, set goals and ensure students meet their learning objectives.

The principal oversees day-to-day operations, handling disciplinary matters, manages a budget and hires teachers and
other personnel.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master's Degree from an accredited institution.

2. Massachusetts Certification as a Principal.

3. Five years of teaching experience.

4. Knowledge of Special education Law and Regulations, as well as all special education related protocols.

5. Inspirational leader with demonstrated experience to lead a recognized, high performing school.

6. Enthusiastic with a history of proven results.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Serve as the administrative head of the school and, as such, have responsibility for coordination of the total resources
of the school and general supervision of all school activities, safety, and welfare.

2. Be responsible for the implementation of developmentally appropriate behavioral support systems in the school, taking
such action as he/she deems necessary within the restrictions of state law and policies of the School Committee, to
develop and improve the skills of the students (including formulating, publicizing, and practicing adequate provisions for
meeting emergencies such as fire, storm, or other sudden dangers).

3. Be responsible for general evaluation of all educational activities to ensure they are developmentally appropriate for
young children with and without disabilities.

4. See that adequate school and pupil records are kept securely safeguarded.

5. Sustain a program for the continuous improvement of instruction in the school in collaboration with the Director of
Early Childhood and consistent with the philosophy of education approved by the Fall River School Committee.

6. Their leadership shall include a cooperative relationship with all key staff members, and shall involve participation of
the school faculty in planning and conducting a suitable and effective program for all students in the school.

7. Maintain high morale of staff and sound human and professional relationships with the school, and shall be available
for consultation with teachers, students, and parents.

8. Assign all professional staff within the building in accordance with the limits of their certification and competency.
Those staff members are to be directly responsible to the principal in conjunction with the district administration.

9. Make recommendations to the Superintendent in the areas of recruitment, selection, assignment orientation, in-service
training, evaluation, transfer, promotion, and dismissal of staff.

10. Assign, direct, and supervise all staff members working in the school.

11. Collaborate with the Early Childhood Special Education Team in monitoring the progress of students with disabilities
to support Teams in making student-centered, data driven decisions on services, supports and placement in the least
restrictive environment.

12. Work with the Director of Early Childhood to ensure accurate Child Outcomes Summary data for DESE reporting.

13. Maintains communication with community based child care programs related to students that are dually enrolled.
Maintain a cooperative relationship with regard to the lunch program for the school.

14. Participates on the Early Childhood leadership team and advisory council.

15. Maintain a cooperative relationship with respect to school bus arrangements for the school.

16. Work cooperatively with the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendents, the Director of Early
Childhood, and the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the budget and in the business operation of the school.

17. Administer and safeguard all funds that may be received or disbursed by the school.

18. Interpret the educational objectives of the school to parents and other citizens of the community and encourage their
participation in efforts to improve the school program.

19. Represent the school through participation in the activities of local, state, and national professional organizations, and
encourage other staff members to extend their participation in a similar way.

20. Cooperate with recognized social and law enforcement agencies in such a way as to utilize the service of these
organizations for the best interest of the school.

21. Maintain an interest in, and a concern for, the welfare of the total school system.

22. Perform all other related activities assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable
alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the
Fall River School Committee.

Reports To: Superintendent

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits to be negotiated. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be
established within an individual contract.

Salary: 2023-2024 Salary Range is $106,667 to $126,667
