Job Summary

Serve as a Math Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for STEM majors on the Statesboro campus. SI is an academic support program utilizing student-led study sessions to help students be successful in traditionally difficult academic courses.

Responsibilities

  • The SI Leader will attend the MATH 1111 or MATH 1113 courses and help students as needed during the lectures.
  • The SI Leader will meet and tutor students in the MATH 1111 or MATH 1113 courses at regular times during the week.
  • The SI Leader will be paid to attend the course and tutor the students.
  • The SI leader is expected to work between 8 to 10 hours a week at $15 an hour.
  • The SI Leader will provide updates and feedback to the Associate Vice President for Academics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be an EGSC student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and be in good academic standing.
  • Must have successfully completed the MATH 1111 and MATH 1113 classes.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Basic computer skills are needed, including the ability to answer emails and create basic Excel spreadsheets.
  • Basic math concepts from the MATH 1111 and MATH 1113 classes
  • The ability to interact with instructors for clarification on desired learning outcomes or material to be covered
  • The ability to be patient with struggling learners
  • Ability to divide attention to more than one student
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to provide good customer service is essential.
