Job DescriptionSummary/ ObjectiveESH currently sponsors three NYC Department for the Aging and DYCD Neighborhood Development Area Initiative funded Older Adult Centers- Melrose Older Adults Center, Patterson Older Adult Center, and Borinquen Court Mitchel Older Adult Center. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Department Director of Older Adults sits as part of the middle management team and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Older Adult Department.
The Department Director of Older Adult Services will oversee all East Side House Older Adult Services and initiatives. The Department Director of Older Adults will be responsible for planning and outlining department goals, objectives and priorities, quality of programs and services, contract and fiscal compliance, personnel supervision (including capacity building and professional development), and the development and operation of present and future Older Adult Services and Initiatives.
Duties/ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions and Deliverables:
  • Implement vision and strategy for Older Adult and Senior Service programs
  • Develop divisional and agency-wide priorities objectives, goals, and new initiatives for Older Adult services
  • Provide leadership to the Older Adults services management team through supervision, planning, professional development, and capacity building
  • Facilitate and steward partnerships between the Older Adult Services Team and other ESH Teams, and work to strengthen collaborative relationships with existing and potential external partners
  • Represent division/agency on city-wide and local coalitions and advocacy groups
  • Provide crisis intervention to community when necessary
  • Adhere to contractual obligations and compliance updates dictated by multiple government and private funding sources to maintain contract integrity and performance
  • Provide fiscal oversight to department: including budget, payroll, contract negotiations and monitoring.
  • Work with Development Department to raise funds to support programs and operations, identify potential funding sources and prepare reports and proposals
  • Liaise with funding agencies and collaborate with Development department on fundraising and reporting
  • Support program developments and identify innovative and strategic resources at all sites
  • Formally, ensure and monitor expenses and modifications as needed
  • Ad hoc requests from Executive Staff.

Required Education, Experience And Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent of 5 years in community services preferred, at least 2 of those years are in a supervisory role required; master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with the respective Bronx communities, key stakeholders, and resources
  • Experienced in designing, planning, and implementing structured programs.
  • 2 years in supervising multiple program staff and managing teams.
  • 2 years of budget, contract, and grant management experience
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and process information and data and make operational decisions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and assesses priorities and actions.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Exemplary fiscal management, contract management, and performance management skills and experience
  • Thorough understanding of DFTA policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, including strong public speaking, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred) a plus

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position manages all employees within portfolio and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
Travel Travel is primarily during the business day to older adult centers, affiliated ESH programs, and/or other agency/ program partners.
Work Schedule Monday through Friday, for an 8-hour day and occasional weekends and holidays. Days and hours of work will range within and to cover the shift of operations from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s program needs.
Remote Work This position is not eligible for remote work. Availability and visibility on site for staff and clients is essential to the success of the operation.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
