Responsibilities:
- Assist optometrists in providing patient care
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records
- Conduct preliminary tests and measurements, such as visual acuity, autorefraction, blood pressure, imaging and visual field testing
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care and maintain colntact lens trial inventory
- learn to assist with frame selection and fitting of eyeglasses
- Perform basic optical laboratory duties, such as frame adjustments
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the optical area
Requirements:
- Previous experience as an optical assistant or in a related field preferred
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and insurance verification is a plus
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain patient confidentiality preferred
- Proficiency in medical terminology is a plus and ability to navigate electronic and paper medical record systems
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and eye structure is helpful but can be learned
- Familiarity with aseptic technique for maintaining sterile environments
