Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may also be assigned:
  1. General Accounting:

  • Develop, recommend and supervise the implementation of policy.
  • Develop and analyze financial statements. Report changes in financial condition to CEO/President on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor G/L and A/P functions.
  • Review daily cash flow and project cash requirements to maximize investments and minimize borrowing requirements while meeting agency and vendor payable commitments and generate reports as needed.
  • Monitor the organization's payroll and employee benefit processes.
  • Monitor accounts receivable reports.
  • Perform financial analyses of operations. Develop systems to monitor and evaluate department actuals to goals.
  • Ensure that schedules for year-end/quarter end and monthly financial closing, audit work papers and financial statements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper documentation and implementation of internal control procedures.
  1. Budgeting and Reports
  • Monitor and analyze overall operating budget and functional expenses.
  • Assist departments with development and monitoring budgets.
  • Ensure all financial and statistical reports to State and Federal Government and related agencies are filed and completed in a timely basis.
  • Ensure all fiscal reports to National Easter Seal Society are filed and completed on a timely basis.
  1. Administration

  • Comply with privacy laws and requirements under HIPAA regulations and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
  • Follow all safety procedures as outlined by the Injury, Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP) Safety Manual and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.
  1. Supervision:

  • Provide direct supervision of staff.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring staff.
  • Provide on-the-job training of staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Develop and monitor short-range and long-range goals for the department.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited university, or Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Five (5) years of equivalent experience in the accounting
  • Non-profit healthcare field a plus but not required.
  • Supervisory Experience preferred but not required (will train)

  1. Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
  • Position requires proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.
  • Position requires current fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.

  1. Working Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of supervision and staff development.
  • Philosophies, objectives, and goals of a community services organization.
  • Effective interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Standard accounting procedures and principles.
  • Cash management, expenditure and disbursement process.
  • Laws, regulations, and reporting requirements relating to fiscal management in non-profit organizations.
  • Fiscal administration and supervisory skills.
  • Budgetary preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Computer and manual accounting systems.
  1. Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and use available resources.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Interpret and follow a variety of instructions provided verbally, written, in diagram or schedule form.
  • Maintain composure and good judgment under stressful conditions.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and the public.

  1. Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Supervise and train staff.
  • Evaluate situations and take effective action.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for non-profit agencies.
  • Perform all standard accounting functions.
  • Accurately attend to detail.
  • Read and analyze financial reports.
