Eastern Connecticut Health Network is Hiring an Occupational Therapist, Clinical Day School - Per Diem Near Manchester, CT

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Occupational Therapist provides services to the students enrolled in our Clinical Day School. The Clinical Day school operates approximately 43 weeks per year (matched to the Manchester Public Schools year) and the Extended School Year (summer school) operates for six weeks in the summer with optional summer hours available. The OTR/L will screen and assess adolescents for education challenges and functional impairments and develop treatment plans and provide services to students. The OTR/L will collaborate with sending districts to provide services identified on the Individual Education Plan of the students. The OTR/L will provide consultation to teaching and support staff to improve educational delivery and classroom implementation of interventions that will assist the students. As skill set permits, may provide flexible coverage to another service within Behavioral Health on a short-term basis. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

·This position requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy (OT)

·National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

·State of Connecticut registered Occupational Therapy (OTR/L) license

·Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification is considered a plus

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children ages 12 to 21 in a Behavioral Health setting as an OTR/L.

COMPETENCIES:

  • This position requires computer competency with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook and strong written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Strong clinical skills are needed including a demonstrated strong team orientation and flexibility in approach so that service specific as well as overall system needs can be met.

  1. Demonstrates skill performing comprehensive functional assessments, including sensory processing and specialized age-appropriate assessments in a timely manner and completes all appropriate documentation within required time frames as evidenced by chart reviews and feedback from Director of Education.
  2. Consistently identifies assistance that the student requires in order to maximize level of functioning and makes recommendation to team or other appropriate persons via written or verbal communication, as evidenced by Individualized Education Program (IEP) reviews, team feedback and supervisor observation.
  3. Completes all requested forms, thorough and accurate documentation and reporting requirements in a timely manner.
  4. Demonstrates timely and appropriate documentation and accountability with documentation related to reimbursement including feedback from schools and other revenue sources.
  5. Demonstrates sound knowledge base of, and appreciation for, growth and development and current issues specific to age group being served. Writes and implements SMART goals that are measurable goals with clear objectives and progress.
  6. Is trained in Physical Management Training (PMT), as evidenced by participation in Early Response and Dr. Strong codes, peer feedback, supervisor observation and attendance at annual PMT refresher trainings.
  7. Demonstrates an understanding of learning disorders and ability to individualize treatment methods and interactions with students as evidenced by meaningful documentation, student and family feedback, district comments, treatment progress, supervisor observation and successful completion of competencies.
  8. Demonstrates ability to identify obstacles and barriers that interfere with treatment and address barriers with staff, students, families and caregivers, and districts.
  9. Actively participates in the acquisition and application of new skills that reflect current practice and clinical trends in field of expertise/licensure through continuing education and attends required in-services, as evidenced by educational record, attendance lists and supervisor observation.
  10. Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the school and/or department as evidenced by willingness to adjust hours and assignments in accordance with the needs of the program and students.
