Job SummaryThe Psychiatric Nurse IIA is an integral member of the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) that provides intensive mobile services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and concurrent related complexities of mental health issues/disorders. The Team Leader is responsible for providing comprehensive client assessments and supports individuals in establishing personal recovery plans as well as short and long-term goals. The Team Leader is assigned a clinical caseload in addition to the team lead.
This position is responsible for directing the day-to-day clinical operations, coordinating clients' intake and assessment process including scheduling intake interviews and doing initial client assessments, as well as coordinating daily ACT team meetings. The position also includes assisting clients with taking, administering, and delivering medications; educating clients regarding coping with side effects and drug interactions; providing clients with daily living and community inclusion such as assessing physical health; educating clients on nutrition and ensuring that nutritional needs are met. The Team Leader provides clinical orientation to new staff, including Psychiatry residents.
The Team Leader is knowledgeable in the MHCTA legislation and attends meetings and completes documentation related to clients who have a community treatment order (CTO). The Team Lead is knowledgeable in waitlist management and completes monthly statistical reports.
The position will consult and work in partnership with local employers, service providers, and community agencies in the provision of service to clients of the ACT team. The position provides education and presentations about ACT within Eastern Health as well as community agencies. This work is performed independently with strong links to community stakeholders and other staff within the ACT team. The position reports to the Program Manager for the ACT team.
Job DemandsRequirementsBy applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Regularly moves or lifts between 5 - 10 lbs, occasionally moves or lifts up to 25 lbs and occasionally is required to push patients in wheelchairs over 50 lbs.
Regularly walks, stands or sits to provide care or to observe patients.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work requiring steadiness and accurate movement/control.
Visual concentration is required to observe a patient's behaviour and body language.
Occasionally required to drive to patients homes for visits or to accompany them to community agencies or resources.
Job QualificationsGraduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing OR a diploma in Nursing supplemented by a Post-Basic course or CNA Certification in Psychiatric Nursing is required.
Practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
Active certification in BLS.
Minimum of five (5) years' experience within the last seven (7) years in Adult Mental Health nursing in Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Acute Care or Ambulatory Care/Community Mental Health is required.
Experience and knowledge of adolescent and youth Mental Health.
Demonstrated competencies in organizational, leadership, interpersonal, team building, communication and decision making skills.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
