Job Title: Tribal Library Assistant/Clerk
General Definition:
Performs a wide variety of general library work in technical and/or public services to assist patrons with daily operational needs of the library, such as copy cataloging, processing, circulation and shelving library materials; performs related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: Tribal Library Director and Librarian
Supervision Exercised: None
Essential Job Functions:
Provides service at the circulation desk including:
· Provide service at the circulation desk including
· prepare library for opening; checks materials in and out using computer terminal
· greet and direct patrons to various locations or locates materials
· answer the phone
· register new patrons on library computer system
· use computer terminal to provide information to the public or explains how to use the library’s computer system
· receive and resolve complaints or refer public to a director
· collect and record fines and fees
· assist supervisors with special projects/grant projects
· Assist with developing and follow a consistent schedule for the Bookmobile route
· use Bookmobile for community outreach
· maintain the Bookmobile in a clean and organized fashion
· maintain service of the Bookmobile and update the Library Director on any mechanical issues
· Carry out project responsibilities for grants awarded to the library in an efficient and timely manner
· Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, dress, speech, decision-making, and upkeep of the library facility
· perform other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
· High school diploma or GED
· One year of work experience dealing with the public
· Substituting successful completion of course work or training in office or library practices and principles for up to six months of the experience
· Or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Excellent verbal and written communication.
· Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
· Ability to work effectively and meet deadlines
· Organizational skills.
· Detail-oriented.
· Multi-tasking and time management skills.
· Computer skills, including typing, data management, record keeping, filing, and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
· Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
· Respect for all Tribal Members, Tribal Officials, Supervisors, and Co-Workers.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
· Must pass a high-level adjudicated background check free from felony or misdemeanor convictions for offenses related to children or illegal drugs.
· Must complete pre-employment drug.
· Current valid driver’s license.
