About being an Authorization Specialist at Easterseals Redwood: This position will be responsible for administering timely and accurate authorizations for the agency. This will include insurance verifications, third party payer authorization approvals, OOD authorizations and plan of care. This role will also include billing and administrative functions as needed.
  • Work with all program areas and third-party payers to obtain insurance verification of benefits and prior authorizations for clients prior to services being received.
  • Follow up on denials with appropriate funders, case managers, clients, etc. to solve authorization issues.
  • Notify appropriate parties as approvals are received and communicate specifics such as co-pays, deductibles, and number of visits.
  • Monitor PA status and notify appropriate personnel 30 days in advance before PA renewal due date.
  • Submit appropriate renewal (re-authorization) documentation to funders in a timely manner.
  • Processes PPEC and SACC and adult respite billing.
  • Provide adult services and therapy billing assistance as needed.
  • Participates in training offered by the state Medicaid/Medicare programs to meet training requirements. Stays current on applicable billing laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Manages highly confidential agency/personnel matters and demonstrates ability to keep matters confidential and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Track and maintain yearly MD orders for therapy and PPEC clients.
  • Backup for billing processes as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What Easterseals Redwood needs from our Authorization Specialist:
  • Minimum 3 years insurance authorization and billing experience.
  • Prior experience with Medicaid/Medicare and commercial insurance prior authorization and billing processes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of insurance authorization and verification processes.
  • Knowledge of medical or cost reimbursement billing and EDI billing systems.
  • Knowledge of payment and collection procedures and adjustment processes.
  • Ability to analyze client account problems, determine corrective action, and make recommendations for solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
