InStride and Easterseals SWFL are seeking a part-time Equine / Barn staff position responsible for performing all horse care duties and working as needed in all the Equine Assisted therapy and educational programs. Equine/barn staff will ensure and maintain the highest level of safety standards at our InStride barn in Nokomis, FL. set forth by the organization and by PATH International. Qualifications: Knowledge of and experience with day-to-day operations of a working barn or stable Ability to handle horses safely and competently on the ground including leading and lunging horses Above average knowledge of equine behavior Good communication skills Reliable and punctual Must be able to lift 50 pounds Ability to work unsupervised Responsibilities: Bring horses in from the pastures and turn horses out into the pastures as indicated on the turnout schedule Feed and water horses according to the exact requirements noted on the stall cards Clean and bed stalls Keep barn aisles clean (sweeping or blowing) Perform other cleaning duties as needed to keep the workplace clean Assist with the horse conditioning program Perform daily treatments on horses as directed by your supervisor Distribute hay into pastures daily during the winter months Assist in supervising barn volunteers Assist as needed with fundraising and special events Report equine injuries, changes in behavior, or feed consumption to the barn manager Condition allocated horse to an acceptable standard under the relevant supervisor Record conditioning, training, and hippo therapy use in the relevant training records folders Other duties as assigned Duties Related to Equine Therapy Programs: Prepare horses for hippotherapy and therapeutic riding program Assist with all other programs as assigned Administrative Duties: Report any shortages of inventory (feed, hay, grooming supplies, broken equipment, medications ... etc.) on the supplies list provided Attend all barn staff meetings and training Report to immediate supervisor all barn and equine matters Correspond and liaise with coordinators of individual programs regarding program matters.
