JOB The Juvenile Detention Worker supervises juveniles held in secure detention and assists in providing services for their care. This position maintains a secure and safe environment and enforces the policies and procedures established for the Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center in accordance with laws and regulations governing secure detention of juveniles. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Manages and interacts with juveniles, individually or in groups, to provide a positive rehabilitative influence; demonstrates leadership by being a positive role model for youth and treating all persons with dignity and respect.Applies attentive and careful observation to individual and group behaviors daily; screens and evaluates juveniles for signs of abuse, behavioral problems, alcohol and drug abuse or withdrawal, security risk and psychological needs; identifies and takes appropriate action with all juveniles that appear mentally or physically ill; enforces regulations and behavior management policies related to the security and operation of the facility; documents observations in compliance with laws and regulations.Admits and discharges juveniles according to established procedures; records all necessary information; maintains required documentation.Evaluates potentially dangerous situations and makes critical and sound judgments and decisions on how to diffuse; responds promptly and effectively in emergency situations; uses appropriate techniques to calm disruptive juvenile residents.Provides for health, safety, and recreation needs of juveniles in detention; complies with all procedures and schedules for meals, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, and inspections; distributes meals, clothing, and linens; receipts, verifies, and dispenses resident medications as instructed; provides and supervises juveniles' access to educational and recreational activities; provides transportation to juveniles for court and off-site appointments and activities.Demonstrates effective case management services to juveniles in the 180 Program; conducts home, school, and work site visits; coordinates juvenile’s daily program activities.Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
