Job Description Summary:

The Safety Coordinator evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments. The employee will compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational injuries, illness and incidents and preparation for information of personnel concerned. This position is project based and will report to the Safety Manager. Travel is expected to be around 75%.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Investigate work related incidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Report or review findings from incident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
  • Maintain & apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and operational processes
  • Conduct or facilitate supervisory and field level training of regional personnel. Administer and ensure training policy compliance at the regional level. Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
  • Conducts meetings with supervisors and employees to discuss such points as the standards, cited violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards and to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues
  • Conducts or directs activities to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given system, operation, or process
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations
  • Maintains liaison with outside organizations to assure information exchange and mutual assistance
  • Coordinates safety activities of operational regions to ensure implementation of said activities throughout the organization
  • Develops incident-prevention and loss-control systems, as well as programs for incorporation into the operational policies of the organization
  • Implements and coordinates program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness, and financial losses

Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Customer and Personal Service: knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Law and Government: Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Degree in Safety or a safety related field or equivalent field experience
  • Safety certification (CUSP, CHST, CIH) Preferred
  • Prefer 2-4 years’ experience with utility experience preferred
  • Pay Range: $80,000 to $145,000
