Range: $50,000-$90,000

The Eckinger Construction Company located in Canton Ohio is celebrating 100 years of business in 2023. Eckinger Construction builds retail stores, restaurants, and other commercial projects throughout the country that offer clients a diverse scope of services to meet all building needs.

The Estimator assists in preparing work to be estimated, gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and other related documents. Identifying labor, materials, and time requirements for projects, attend bid meetings, owner meetings, and other meetings with stakeholders and work alongside within a team to prepare budgets in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Quickly become familiar with project documentation to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements.
  • Creating detailed and accurate cost estimates including scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, quantity, size, configuration, options, etc.
  • Assure that the estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete and reflect the actual requirements of the project
  • Solicit subcontractor and material bids
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, etc.
  • Review successful bids during handoff meeting to Project Managers and superintendents
  • Research new products/cost/installation details
  • Find Subcontractors while maintaining and updating Subcontractor information as necessary
  • Maintains a competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards
  • Maintain record of transactions
  • Maintains OSHA Certification and paperwork as needed / required
  • Attends meetings, training and professional development as needed / required
  • Other duties / projects as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • BA in construction management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of estimating experience as a full-time estimator, 3-5 years preferred.
  • Prior experience as a commercial construction estimator with experience in retail, restaurant and ground up construction preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and other documents
  • Organized with strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interface with subcontractors, suppliers and designers while developing a bid as needed
  • Knowledge of estimating multiple building/project types
  • Experience in hiring and managing outside contractors
  • Computer proficiency in all Microsoft Office and Construction Management Software
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possess analytical skills, communication skills, relationship building, technical abilities, strong mathematical skills, critical thinking, detail-oriented, multi-tasking and excellent time management.
  • Applicant must be able to calculate the cost of commercial construction projects, including but not limited to labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors and suppliers. Must provide detailed cost proposals.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job; employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

While on the job site, the job will become more physically active and can include the following: layout for necessary job conditions and requirements, climbing of stairs and ladder, and inspection of work in place requiring access to all areas of the site.
