ECMC is Hiring a Lead Sterile Processing Technician - FT - Evening Shift Near Buffalo, NY

HOURLY RANGE: $21.502/hr - $29.931/hr
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves supervising and performing functions related to infection control such as cleaning, assembling, inspecting and sterilizing instruments and medical equipment for the Operating Room at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent provides sterile products, trays and case carts and assists in maintaining a continuous workflow between prep and pack area and the Operating Room. This class differs from that of the Sterile Processing Technician by virtue of its supervisory responsibilities. The work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level sterile processing personnel. Supervision is exercised over Sterile Processing Technicians. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
  • Supervises Sterile Processing Technicians by assigning work, making work schedules, evaluating employee performance, monitoring time and attendance, and orientating new staff;
  • Decontaminates and reprocesses surgical instruments and other medical equipment according to prescribed procedures and techniques;
  • Assembles trays/sets by using count sheet;
  • Sterilizes instruments, surgical and house trays and equipment in compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Ensures trays and/or supplies are wrapped, sterilized and on case carts and ready for delivery;
  • Ensures trays and/or supplies are delivered in a timely manner;
  • Utilizes a computer to generate preference cards for setting up case carts, fill out case cart accountability sheets and access various tracking systems;
  • Performs inventory management, ordering and stocking of supplies;
  • Receives requests for items and distributes requested items to various locations throughout the hospital;
  • Assists in keeping the Operating Room and Prep & Pack area clean and organized.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of various sterilization methods and supplies; good knowledge of inventory control; good knowledge of decontamination and sterilization techniques; good knowledge of common terminology used to describe hospital supplies; good knowledge of hospital functions; ability to use computerized tracking systems and inventory control systems; ability to operate various sterilization equipment; ability to read and understand written material; ability to read, document and interpret parameters of sterilizers for proper functioning; ability to plan and supervise the work of lower-level staff; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience as a sterile processing technician.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) as issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; or:
  • Possession of Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) as issued by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
