ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed community hospital located in Ahoskie. Serving four nearby counties, the 15-bed emergency department sees approximately 18,000 patients per year. ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital provides a wide range of health services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology. In addition, the Wound Healing and Pain Management clinics serve as referral centers for neighboring ECU Health hospitals and providers.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant I processes outpatient test requests.
As a Laboratory Assistant I, you will:

Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, you may perform waived and moderately complex testing and chain-of-custody drug collections. Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned and maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
- Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.
Minimum Requirements
- High School, Equivalent (GED), or higher
- Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended
Preferred
6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical settingPhlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency:
- National Healthcare Association (NHA)
- Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb) American Society of Clinical Pathologists
- - Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)]
- International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS)
- National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)
- American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
- National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
- National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS) American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership
