Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)

Role: Driver Edenbridge PACE at Skyland Town Center

Location: Washington, DC 20020

Status: Part-time (Weekends & Nights), Full-time (Weekends 3 Week days)

Mission: To allow frail elderly people to age in the location of their choosing and continue to lead connected, meaningful lives

The Driver role offers a unique opportunity to help our frail elderly population to continue to lead connected, meaningful lives. Edenbridge PACE is opening the first PACE program servicing the community in Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, DC.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing transportation services for the frail elderly or brain-injured participants from their homes to the center and for medical appointments. Provides transportation for field trips as part of the activities program or day treatments. Delivers in-home meals and provides delivery and pick-up of supplies and medications for participants. This position Report to the Transportation Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Drives vehicles in a safe and responsible manner utilizing defensive driving skills and following assigned routes. This includes smooth braking, and acceleration, taking bumps or curves at a reasonable speed, etc.
  • Escort participants safely from the bus thru door and back onto the bus utilizing all safety training, safety equipment and skills.
  • Ensures the proper securing of the participants inside the vehicle and while unloading using the proper safety equipment.
  • Transport participants to scheduled appointments as arranged by the dispatcher.
  • Delivers in-home meals, supplies and medications to participants as arranged by dispatcher.
  • Assists participants in their home environment or other locations with tasks when necessary (i.e.: put on socks, shoes, jackets, toileting, etc.).
  • Maintains clean vehicle, by regularly sweeping floors, cleaning glass cleaning interior and exterior.
  • Works with the Transportation Manager or Coordinator to schedule maintenance or repairs of vehicles.
  • Must be available to work all Transportation operational hours which may include overtime, on-call and weekends.
  • Must maintain calm and have a professional demeanor at all times. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Equivalent experience in lieu of education will be accepted.
  • Must have 1 year of experience with the frail, elderly or disabled population.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and criminal background check.
  • Must have a current Driver’s License and driving record must be in compliance with Company policy at all times. Must maintain current automobile insurance.
  • Must be free of communicable diseases that can be readily transmitted in the workplace and have all immunizations up to date before providing direct care. Vaccination against Covid -19 is required.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques of the position including how to use and maintain equipment (vehicle, lift, tie-downs).
