REPORTS TO: Campus Principal/Migrant LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 190 Days

PAY GRADE:  PI 2 SALARY RANGE: $15.00 Min $21.86 Max

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Parental/Migrant Liaison is responsible for obtaining and processing all eligibility and identification forms for all migrant students in the school district and maintaining an open line of communication between the school, home, and community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
TEA certification requirements
High School Graduate or GED
Have an understanding of the New Generation System (NGS)
Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish
Driver's license and vehicle

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
? Identify and recruit all migrant students and keep Migrant Coordinator informed.
? Process all migrant eligibility forms and input into NGS.
? Maintain a daily log on all migrant students.
? Keep, update, and maintain folder with relevant information of every migrant enrolled.
? Keeps records and count of active three-year old migrant students.
? Plans, prepares, and files information for the upcoming year.
? Distribute school supplies for migrant students.
? Update and process all student/family information needed pertaining to the Texas Migrant Student transfer Packet System/New Generation System.
? Input migrant records in the NGS: Certificate of eligibility, Health, Social Work/Outreach for Advocacy, withdrawals, Sp. Ed., and STAAR EOC.
? Submit all information inputted into NGS to Migrant Office.
? Keep weekly/monthly migrant count.
? Register students by completing all district required document and maintain in folder.
o Student Special Services Document.
o Family Interview Document
? Collaborate with PEIMS on a monthly basis.
? Attend all district Migrant Clerk meetings/trainings.
? Attend all Education Service Center required mandatory trainings.
? Visit student’s homes to explain school programs, to reinforce positive attitudes of parents and students towards school, and to learn of any home problems that may have a bearing on student accomplishments in school.
? Listens to parents and report problems observed in the home to counselor, principal and/or the person making the referral.
? Host parent meetings to share services provided by the school, community, and public and private agencies.
? Plan and facilitate parent meetings with invitations, agendas, sign-in sheets, and evaluations.
? Coordinates & facilitate the Parent Volunteer Program daily and keeps record of parent volunteer applications including background checks and TB skin test.
? Plan and host the set number of parent training sessions set by the district on the recommended topics.
? Serve as interpreter for parents when necessary in conferences with principals, teachers and counselors.
? Assist the principal in recording any suspected violations of the law regarding health or housing code violations, child abuse, etc., for immediate follow-up action.
? Assist in reducing absenteeism through home visits, and maintain phone call logs, etc.
? Assist the counselor in working with parents concerning children’s progress and needed encouragement.
? Work with and support the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and Title I Parent meetings at the assigned campus and/or district level.
? Identify, recruits, and maintains appropriate records for compensatory students.
? Inform parents of ways in which they can serve and become involved in the education of their children.
? Assist with the implementation of the district’s volunteer program.
? Prepare and follow through with clothing referrals for Title I students.
? Assist with the implementation of the district’s Project Gateway dropout reduction program.
? Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
? Performs other related duties as assigned.
