JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Elementary Secretary/Health Aide Revised 8-4-17 

Department: Elementary Schools

Immediate Supervisor: Building Principal

 Job Goal: Responsible to represent the school building and district in a most positive way to students, staff, parents, and total community. Performs work of a general office nature, that assists with the smooth operation of the building.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Process student attendance.
  1. Operate general office equipment. 
  1. Distribute mail and community/district flyers.
  1. File records. 
  1. Greet visitors and provide assistance or information concerning policies, procedures and other details.
  1. Responsible for responding to telephone/intercom calls in a pleasant and efficient manner/taking messages accurately and routing calls. 
  1. Responsible for control and administration of medication for students; keeping updated medical files on students. Responsible for basic first aid care for students sick or injured; taking temperatures, calling parents, filling out accident reports, etc.
  1. Responsible for performing specialized care and treatment as prescribed by medical plan on file.
  1. Manage Clinic Supplies.
  1. Enter data on the computer.
  2. Clerical duties such as typing memos/letters, etc.
  1. Assist Student Records Secretary as needed.
  1. Computer back- up of Student Information System.
  1. Other duties may be assigned.

Length of Contract: One hundred ninety-five (195) contract days. 

Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support

Employees of Edmond (SEE).

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building

Administrator in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law,

and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Current CPR or First Aid Certification and Diabetes training or willing to gain certification. Preferred medical knowledge or experience. Necessary training will be provided. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information learned in the performance of duties. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

None required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

REASONING SKILLS:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to use the mathematical skills as required. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Be able to communicate clearly and distinctly in English, by telephone and face-to-face, within the confinement of a semi-noisy environment, i.e., other employees, equipment, children, etc. Subject to constant noise of copy machines, calculator or telephone. Subject to working in a confined area in close proximity to others and frequent interruptions. May need to unload boxes and lift books, paper, etc. during check-in procedures. Must be mentally and physically prepared for unforeseen emergencies at all times.
