EDUPRIZE High School is seeking a motivated, professional Academic Counselor to provide guidance and support to students, helping them navigate their academic path by advising on course selection, developing study skills, planning for college applications, and assessing academic strengths and weaknesses. He or she will also collaborate with teachers and parents to maximize student achievement and prepare them for future educational and career goals. The candidate may also offer support for personal challenges that impact academics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Academic advising:
- Assist students in selecting appropriate courses based on their academic goals and abilities.
- Monitor student progress to make sure they are on track to graduate, and identify areas needing improvement.
- Provide guidance on study habits, time management strategies, and test preparation techniques.
- Review transcripts and help students develop academic plans.
- Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
- Ensure 100% graduation rate.
- College and career counseling:
- Educate students about college application processes, including deadlines, standardized tests, admissions essays, requirements, and financial aid.
- Assist students in researching colleges and career options that align with their interests and aptitudes.
- Conduct mock college interviews and review application essays.
- Student assessment and intervention:
- Assist with standardized tests and interpret results to identify academic strengths and weaknesses.
- Provide individual and small group counseling to address academic challenges.
- Support grades 7-12 state testing.
- Collaboration and communication:
- Meet with teachers to discuss student progress and concerns.
- Communicate with parents to keep them informed about their student's academic performance and provide support.
- Collaborate with school administration to implement academic initiatives and support student success.
- Other potential responsibilities:
- Schedules visits from college and trade school representatives, and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.
- Lead workshops on topics like study skills, time management, and test preparation.
- Provide referrals to outside resources for students needing additional support with mental health or personal issues.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school system.
- Support state and standardized testing requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Minimum of 1 year of school counseling
- Must be familiar with Arizona High School graduation requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze data and interpret student needs
- Knowledge of college application processes and career pathways
- Understanding and familiarity with computer applications and word processing functions
Preferred Skills:
- Desire and ability to work with Junior High and High School students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
- Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.
- Knowledge of educational software.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
