What are the responsibilities and job description for the Healthcare Data Analyst position at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)?
Job Summary:
This position will work with other team members to help NCAHD meet its mission, goals and objectives by managing large healthcare workforce datasets and mapping servers to support the data collection and processing activities that are a part of the center.
The healthcare research and data analytics specialist will work along with other members of NCAHD to research and analyze healthcare data. They must have data analysis experience, a desire and ability to learn new platforms, and a teamwork attitude to support our clients, including VCOM, with various data products/services, marketing products, and online portals/social media sites.
Job Duties:
- 1. Provide experienced national healthcare content in the creation of publications, dataset development and national, regional and state analysis
- 2. Incorporate data analytics into current NCAHD products and services
- 3. Responsible for creating/updating NCAHD’s website and portal tutorials and NCAHD’s social media sites with center’s research and other findings
- 4. Assist in the creation and maintenance of spatial data for NCAHD’s portal and client data
- 5. Assist in normalizing and inventorying large datasets of inconsistent data (e.g., normalizing national healthcare workforce data of 14 different providers from all 50 states)
- 6. Maintain general working knowledge of status of data, state boards, etc.
- 7. Generate mapping products to support internal VCOM and external client requests using ESRI software
- 8. Provide statistical analysis on the center’s healthcare workforce research and proposal development
- 9. Perform spatial analysis and other GIS activities
- 10. Create images for use in NCAHD’s marketing campaign, as well as assist in the preparation of text content for marketing publications
- 11. Stay updated with industry trends, new analytics tools, and emerging healthcare regulations to ensure best practices are incorporated into the analytics process.
- 12. Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Health Geography, Health Analytics, Health Informatics, Geographic Information Systems or similar subject
Licensure or certification: none
Experience: Must have at least, 2-3 years of work experience with and knowledge of:
- Large Database analytics, statistics and database management, preferably in the healthcare field
- National healthcare trends and issues
- Preparing non-clinical healthcare research for publications
- Translating complex data into accessible information
Skills required for this position:
- Expertise with the Microsoft Office suite (beyond basic usage)
- Website management and content creation
- Publications and marketing product creation development
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
- Excellent and proven problem-solving skills
Preferences: Although not essential, preferences may be given to applicants who have the following skills or attributes
- ESRI Mapping
- Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server
- Programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, HTML, SAS, etc.)

Work environment: Office environment. Outside travel required 5% of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The pace of the work requires a rapid pace to synthesize and organize large volumes of material, while prioritizing duties.
This position is classified as a non-exempt position because it does not require that the candidate/employee exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding matters of significance.
