Job DescriptionThe El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in the following subject area for the 2024 fall semester:
MASS COMMUNICATION, REPORTING, AND/OR PHOTOJOURNALISM
Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.
Course assignments may include entry-level and advanced news writing and reporting, mass media and society, basic and advanced photojournalism and other media storytelling and design, and/or student media advising and recruiting. Some assignments may include dual-enrollment courses offered offsite on high school campuses.
Required QualificationsMaster's degree in journalism or communication with a specialization in journalism; OR
Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND Master's in English, history, communication, literature, composition, comparative literature, any social sciences, business, business administration, marketing, graphics, or photography; OR
The equivalent - Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of work experience in the discipline equivalent to the degree; Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject; AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.
Desired QualificationsCommunity college-level teaching experience in news writing and reporting, as well as in mass media and society.
Professional experience in news and/or sports writing, copyediting, and an emphasis on photojournalism experience.
Online Teaching Certification (highly desirable)
CLOSING DATE: MONDAY, JULY 8, 2024 AT 3:00 P.M.
SalaryPart-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate $105.27 - $134.39 (lecture), $79.79 - $101.83 (lab), per hour depending on education and experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time teaching assignment(s) for the 2024 fall semester, beginning August, 2024. A teaching demonstration may be required during the interview process. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit Certificate of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security card upon hire.
