Job Summary Are you a passionate and dedicated public health professional looking to make a meaningful impact on reproductive health and disease prevention? Join our team as a Public Health Nurse II in a grant-funded position, where you'll play a pivotal role in providing clinical services and educational support within our Reproductive Health Clinic (RHC) and the Criminal Justice Center (CJC). You'll have the opportunity to develop and refine protocols for comprehensive STI screening, administer intervention services, and offer vital support to clients in need. Collaborating closely with medical staff and community partners, you'll ensure seamless screening and treatment, while also spearheading educational initiatives to promote awareness and prevention. Hiring Range: $76,875.00 - $84,050.00 annually (salary to be commensurate with qualifications) This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develops and refines protocols for comprehensive STI screening at the CJC.
  • Evaluates clients to determine if they meet the testing eligibility criteria.
  • Administers indicated intervention services at a minimum of three days a week. This includes testing and treatment of indicated infection(s).
  • Offers confirmatory testing for reactive rapid test clients.
  • Offers pregnancy testing to clients of reproductive age who test positive for syphilis.
  • Develops and maintains a staff training plan for STI testing.
  • Creates and distributes educational materials.
  • Collaborates with CJC medical staff and El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH) Clinic staff in screening and treatment of indicated population.
  • Utilizes existing and creates new community connections and referrals for follow up care and services.
  • Evaluates patients for additional support services.
  • Completes a quality improvement plan for Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPHE).
  • Completes and submits monthly narrative reports for Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPHE).
  • Attends scheduled Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPHE) contract monitoring calls.
  • Collects demographic information and completes client-level data REDCap survey forms.
  • Collects a minimum of 90% of required data elements for Syphilis testing and other funded intervention services and activities.
  • Takes personal responsibility to provide exceptional customer service in order to promote and maintain a positive Public Health image, constructive working environment, and foster pride and professionalism in the workplace and community.
  • Performs other duties as required.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures.

  • Ability to respond in a flexible manner and reprioritize work as situations change.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
  • Ability to identify problems and work creatively to develop resolutions and recommend corrective actions to supervisor, considering the impact of actions on Public Health.
  • Ability to identify results of efforts and problems identified/potential problems and to develop and recommend corrective actions to supervisor.
  • Ability to write and maintain accurate records and reports to meet management objectives.
  • Ability to maintain the security of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to infections, blood, and contagious diseases.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Two years of nursing experience.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have current Registered Nurse licensure to practice in the State of Colorado; nurses with compact licensure must meet all licensure requirements set forth by the Colorado Board of Nursing within ninety days of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR Certification.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.
Work ConditionsWork environment may include potential exposure to infections, blood, and contagious diseases; potential exposure to pets, secondhand smoke and other environmental hazards. Some travel may be required; work may be assigned in various locations. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 25 pounds and bend at waist or knees to get down to child's level. Public Health employees are responsible for providing proof of vaccinations and/or tuberculosis testing as applicable to the specific position and must provide proof of completion of required vaccinations/testing or proof of initiation within sixty days of hire date.
