Role Overview:

The role of Stronger Connections Grant Project Coordinator integrates leadership, strategic direction, and comprehensive guidance to support the academic and social/emotional needs of students. This position is pivotal in implementing a robust developmental guidance program and supporting the Stronger Connections grant program to foster safer, healthier, and more inclusive learning environments at the campus level.

 

Special Knowledge and Skills:

- Knowledge of counseling procedures, scholar academic levels/needs, and career development

- Knowledge of behavior modification techniques, restorative practices, and evidence-based interventions for addressing behavioral issues

- Ability to institute excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds

- Ability to facilitate both small and large group counseling sessions

- Ability to innovate, think creatively and critically, and actively find solutions to new and familiar challenges

- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform decision-making and program planning

- Ability to model democratic practices, honor diversity, advocate for equity, and participate ethically in the school community

- Commitment to promoting a positive school climate and supporting the social-emotional well-being of all students

- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the department

- Ability to discern the sensitivity of internal/external communications in a charter organization and an awareness of elements of public relations

- Ability to use technology effectively for communication, information management, and collaboration

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Guidance and Counseling:

- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling and guidance program.

- Provide training for faculty, staff, and scholars on recognizing signs of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, harassment, bullying, and teen dating violence.

- Educate school staff, scholars, parents, and the community about guidance and counseling program/services.

- Present classroom guidance lessons related to academic, personal, and social/emotional issues.

- Provide counseling to scholars individually or in small groups as needed.

- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with scholars.

- Maintain communication systems that effectively collect and disseminate information to other professionals as appropriate.

- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and community representatives.

- Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for scholars.

- Create an atmosphere of trust and respect for the school scholars, faculty, families, and partners.

- Nurture scholars’ intellectual, emotional, social, and ethical development as a counselor, educator, and advisor.

- Identify scholars with special needs and make proper referrals for services.

- Provide support to administration in the development and implementation of a campus-wide incentive program.

- Participate in establishing and maintaining a positive school climate to include “joy factor” activities/events.

- Participate in plan development, execution, and evaluation of the charter’s standardized testing programs in conjunction with the Assistant Principal of Special Services.

- Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, scholars, and their parents.

- Maintain confidentiality of scholar assessment and testing process.

- Establish and maintain open channels of communication and professional relationships with scholars, parents, teachers, principals, and other school personnel.

- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

- Use technology effectively for communication, information management, and collaboration.

- Plan and align collaboratively with high school counselors regarding the transition from middle school to high school to meet the academic, emotional, and social needs of all scholars.

- Utilize performance evaluation results and the appraisal process to improve performance.

- Improve counseling skills and knowledge through available in-service training and self-initiated professional training opportunities.

- Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.

 

SCG Project Coordination:

- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to collect, process, and analyze behavioral data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.

- Support the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions and strategies to address behavioral issues and promote positive behavior among students.

- Work with students, parents, and other stakeholders to address individual behavioral concerns and develop behavior modification plans as needed.

- Serve as a point of contact for parents regarding student behavior issues, including discussions related to drug use or other substance abuse concerns.

- Participate in wellness committees and other campus-based initiatives aimed at promoting student well-being and mental health.

- Present updates and findings to school staff, parents, students, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in grant activities.

- Facilitate restorative circles or other restorative practices to address conflicts and promote positive relationships among students and staff.

- Coordinate with external partners, such as mental health agencies or substance abuse prevention programs, to provide additional support and resources for students in need.

- Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum and practices into the classroom environment.

- Assist in the development of communication materials and resources to promote awareness of grant initiatives and resources available to students and families.

 

Qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in guidance counseling

- Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate preferred

- Two (2) years of exemplary classroom teaching or counseling experience

- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field

- Experience working in school settings, preferably in roles related to behavior management, student support, or counseling

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

 

Equipment Used:

Computer, copier, telephone, and other equipment applicable to position.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

- Works with frequent interruptions; maintains emotional control under stress.

- May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of scholars in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.
