Role SummaryThe System Functional Safety Engineer reports to the Senior Director of HW/FW and System Engineering and is a key person in the development of new charging system generations.
This role is responsible for developing safety concept for Electrify America’s charging sites including but not limited to Switchgear, Transformer, HV- Batteries Solar system and DCFC chargers and has to coordinate them with the corresponding system Architects and incorporate the requirements into System and component specifications. Through the lifecycle of the products this role will have to develop fault trees, safety concepts, oversee their implementation and documentation until go life and be the POC for any occurring issue with respect to the implemented safety concept. This also includes the cross functional alignment with Stakeholders like Program and Product Management, Strategy and Operation.
In connection with the Functional Safety the role will also define diagnostic functions that will help to preventative assess all involved components so that the age and health of each component can be assessed remotely and serviced on time.
Role Responsibilities Main responsibility – System Functional safety engineering and development (80%)

• Conduct Functional Safety analysis, FMEDA and FTA for existing and future products.
• Define Functional Safety targets on Systems, components and functional level.
• Develop Functional Safety requirements for components.
• Review and audit implementations by internal and external teams
• Coordinate and support external Auditors in Functional Safety Audits
• Specify and develop Diagnostic and health management.

Additional responsibilities – Competitor and Market analysis (10%)

• Benchmarking of Electrify America technology solutions against competitors.
• Identifying and benchmarking of new vendors or suppliers and solutions.

Additional responsibilities – Alignment with Business/Product development and Strategy (10%)

• Report on the current project Status to Product, Program, Business Development and Strategy
• Support Business Development in the communication with external partners, including the preparation of technical offers for the development scope of the role.

Specialized Skills (Required)

• Expertise and experience in the application of Safety standards like ISO26262, IEC61508, and others during the evaluation, design and develop of electromechanical systems.
• Experience developing Fault Trees and corresponding Functional Safety targets.
• Experience in writing technical requirements for components and systems to achieve the previously set Safety targets.
• Experience in Auditing the development for the correct implementation of the set requirements.
• Experience working closely with Inhouse as well as external development teams.
• E xperience with managing FuSI targets though Product lifecycle, including maintenance

Specialized Skills (Desired)

• Experience in EV Industry and especially the development of DCFC Chargers
• Experience with HV Batteries and their application
• Knowledge and understanding of the automotive OEM industry; electric vehicle mobility.
• Understanding of electric vehicle charging architecture , incl standards such as SAE J1772, ISO15118, OCPP, PKI-infrastructure and related standards
• Experience with patent creation / securing IP

Work Flexibility

• Hybrid-remote with ability to travel up to 10% of time national and abroad
