Job Title: Development Director 

Organization: SF Farmers’ Market Institute

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Are you passionate about making a difference and experienced in fundraising? SF Farmers’ Market Institute is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Development Director to join our team. This pivotal role involves leading our fundraising efforts to ensure the Institute's financial sustainability and support our mission. The ideal candidate will possess strong strategic planning skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for fostering relationships with donors and partners. 

This role involves strategizing and executing fundraising campaigns, cultivating donor relationships, and securing financial support from diverse sources. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will advance the Institute's mission to advocate for farmers, ranchers, and land-based producers; provide equitable access to fresh, local food; operate a year-round venue for the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market; and manage programs that support a profitable, locally based agricultural community. Through effective resource mobilization, the Development Director will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health and mission-driven impact of the Institute.

We Want to Hear from You if You Have:

  • Proven experience in fundraising and donor relations within a nonprofit environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills to develop effective fundraising strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

It Would be Great if You Also Have:

  • Previous experience in organizing and managing fundraising events.
  • Knowledge of donor databases and CRM systems for efficient donor management.
  • Familiarity with budget planning and financial oversight processes in nonprofit organizations.

Successful Candidates will have:

  1. 3 years of experience preferred in nonprofit fundraising and development, demonstrating a track record of successfully securing funding from various sources.
  2. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in fields such as public relations, communications, nonprofit management, or related areas.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, online CRM platforms, and email marketing services, with a plus for familiarity with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  4. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate fundraising events and donor engagements.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for donor appeals and grant proposals.
  6. Strong relationship-building skills, coupled with experience in cultivating donor relationships.
  7. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  8. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  9. A deep passion for SF Farmers’ Market Institute mission and values.

About the Role

As a SFFMI Development Director, you’ll be part of a highly skilled team who advocates for farmers, ranchers, and land-based producers while providing equitable access to fresh, local food through a year-round market venue and manages programs that support the sustainability and profitability of the local agricultural community. Some of your tasks may include:

  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute strategic plans to meet annual revenue targets, including campaigns for individual and corporate donations, sponsorships, and donor events. Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure cohesive messaging.
  • Donor Engagement: Cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, spanning individuals, corporations, foundations, and community groups. Deliver timely and personalized communications to acknowledge contributions and highlight outcomes.
  • Event Coordination: Partner with the Events staff and contractors to organize fundraising events, such as donor appreciation gatherings and community outreach initiatives. Flexibility for evening and weekend commitments is essential.
  • Board Collaboration: Engage with the Board of Directors, and other relevant stakeholders to leverage their networks and expertise in fundraising endeavors.
  • Budget Oversight: Collaborate with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to develop and monitor the annual fundraising budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Accountability: Maintain confidentiality and work with the Executive Director to establish annual goals, objectives, and performance metrics. Provide regular reports reflecting portfolio activity and progress.
  • Management: Overseeing the management of communication and marketing programs and development provided by any third-party contractors, with full oversight and approval from the Executive Director.
