POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructional coaches are an integral part of the leadership team of the early childhood team, along with the Director, Assistant Director, teachers, Family/School Liaison, ECSE teachers, ITC and other support staff. The instructional coach is primarily responsible for providing school-wide instructional leadership by positively impacting student achievement and professional learning through coaching and demonstrating best instructional practice. The instructional coach maintains professional relationships with staff, administrators and students. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess or qualify for a VA collegiate professional license w/ an endorsement in Pre-K - 3rd and Early Childhood Special Education 
    1. Completed or willing to complete Pre-K LETRs training (or will complete w/in 1st year of coaching)
  2. Minimum of 5 years of successful early childhood classroom teaching experience including teaching diverse students. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to transfer scientifically-based researched instructional strategies, including strategies to increase language production into classroom instruction
  4. Strong planning and organizations skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  5. Working knowledge of assigned Early Learning Standards for Preschool students.
  6. Experience collecting, visualizing, and acting on student formative assessment data to alter instruction and student learning outcomes
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of instruction and curriculum development, current theory, instructional practices, and various assessment strategies
  8. Experience working with diverse learning needs.
  9. Maintains the certification to become a CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) certified observer for Preschool classrooms.
  10. Understand and be able to administer the VKRP and VALLS assessments
  11. Understands the Conscious Discipline Framework and is able to model and provide support to classroom teachers.
  12. Proficiency with Google Suite, email, and information system applications.
  13. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using
  14. Proficiency in business English: spelling, grammar and spoken language.
  15. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, co-workers and the community.
  16. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  17. Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks Models non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  18. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  19. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and the community.
  20. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments to improve instructional practices

  6. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  7. Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Effectively uses the HCPS coaching model
  2. Supports teachers in the implementation of school and division level initiatives
  3. Collaborates with Director and Assistant Director to determine instructional support needs
  4. Works with Director and Assistant Director & teachers to interpret student data and instructional needs
  5. Supports teachers growth in creating and maintaining an inclusive classroom through: 
    1. Co-Planning
    2. Co-Teaching
    3. Micro Modeling lessons
    4. Analyzing student data
    5. Observing
    6. Providing feedback
  6. Works with Director and Assistant Director to plan and provide staff development based on school need
  7. Responds to telephone, email, in person requests 
  8. Serves as a role model by developing and effectively maintaining professional boundaries with staff and students
  9. Serves as a role model for others as an educational leader by demonstrating good attendance, punctuality, appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior
  10. Models professional, moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions, including non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  11. Participate in professional development of self and others, including school and division staff development, some of which occurs during the summer 
  12. Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials and facilities.
  13. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies and skills up-to-date.
  14. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  15. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings
  16. Maintains confidentiality in all matters
  17. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  18. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director

  2. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.

  6. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  7. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
