Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is Hiring an Associate Vice President for Safety and Risk Services Near Daytona Beach, FL

Job Description

The Opportunity:

An exciting and rewarding position as Associate Vice President for Safety and Risk Services is now available at Emby-Riddle Aeronautical University. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and the Insurance and Risk Coordinator, and indirectly supervise campus aviation safety managers and the Director of EH&S at the Prescott campus. Provide leadership in all aspects of those programs and responsibilities.
  • Work with the Senior Vice President and CFO, the Insurance and Risk Coordinator, the university's insurance brokers, and other stakeholders (e.g., external consultants) to review and develop the University's insurance program.
  • Serve as liaison to the Flight Safety and Education Committee (FS&E); coordinate with all flight-related programs (e.g., AS, UAS, etc.) to monitor and enhance flight safety.
  • Provide oversight of select university-wide safety related policies (e.g., Minors on Campus, Use of Equipment and Vehicles, etc.).Coordinate with other university offices to provide guidance and input on other university, campus, and/or department safety-related policies.
  • Responsible for working with university leadership, employees, and other stakeholders to champion the Safety Culture across the university.Periodically assess culture internally and with external support as needed, provide training, and promote awareness.
  • Serve on the Initial Review Committee for assessing the risk associated with university activities, programs, etc.When necessary, convene and chair Safety Review Boards for risk assessments.Monitor and track compliance and currency of risk reviews.
  • Other duties as required - e.g., serve on various university committees, serve as a resource for offices reviewing or developing safety initiatives, work within the university's enterprise risk management program as needed, be visible across the university to identify day-to-day safety issues.

This is a salaried position so any and all hours required to accomplish the job are a part of the position. Travel is necessary to visit the Prescott campus and any Worldwide campus as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Aviation, Safety, or related field preferred.
  • Preferred to have skills, knowledge, or abilities in one or more of the following areas: aviation accident investigation, safety reviews, safety culture, aviation maintenance, human factors training, environmental and health safety, insurance, safety management systems, OSHA standards, occupational health and safety, occupational safety, and higher education.
  • 5-10 years of related work experience.
  • Flight operations experience a plus.
  • Accident or incident investigation requires a certain mindset to effectively manage the potential for post traumatic stress. The individual should be trained, or prepared to become trained, in critical incident stress management.
