Desired Qualities
Experience training people of varying skill levels.
Ability to easily adapt any skill or drill based on skater skill level. This may need to be done at the moment due to drop in skaters at a practice, or unknown skill levels attending boot camps.
Strong knowledge of basic skating skills.
Strong knowledge of the rules of roller derby and its gameplay.
Empathetic and a strong emotional intelligence.
Communicates well in person and online.
Able to give constructive feedback.
An active listener.
Able to create a practice plan that is both challenging and safe for the skill level intended.
Certification in concussion awareness.
Training in First Aid.
Expectations of the Role / Tasks
Reports to Board of Directors
Attends and actively engages in Training Team meetings
Drafts and executes practice plans
Teaches the rules of roller derby to new skaters and how it affects strategy.
Gives 1:1 skater feedback, documents individual goals and progresses towards goal attainment
Reviews footage from games to analyze current derby strategy
Seeks out training videos (for on and off skates) to share with the team.
Assesses skater skills and manages assessments progress through ZenPlanner
Hosts Boot Camps quarterly to bring in new numbers of skaters
Schedules dates for boot camps
Creates training plan
Ensures appropriate staffing
Leads boot camp sessions
Executes long term training plan developed by Level 3 Coach.
Collaborates with Level 3 Coach on practice plans for All League practices.
Creates modified game rosters based on skater eligibility and performance.
Manages team expectations and culture around practices, scrimmages, and games.
Works with the Interleague Liaison to schedule and coordinate opponents for home and away scrimmages and games.
Continuously builds upon knowledge of derby gameplay and rules.
Collaborates with the Training Team in efforts to build overarching training strategy.
Upholds integrity, sportsmanship, honesty, and commitment to practices and other derby events. Holds the team to the same expectations and communicates those expectations.
Works with the Head Referee / officiating committee to coordinate officials staffing of scrimmages and games.
Coordinates with the Training Team and effectively delegates additional responsibilities to Training Team members.
