Overview:

Emerald is seeking an Attendee Acquisition & Partnership Director to lead the strategic direction and management of senior-level executive buyer acquisition for MJBiz, the leading cannabis industry news and event resource, connecting cannabis industry executives, entrepreneurs, brands, manufacturers, and investors.

The Audience Acquisition & Partnership Director is responsible for developing and executing the strategy to grow both attendance at MJBizCon and partnerships, both paid and bartered, with VIP-level companies and decision makers. This role will be responsible for growing a pipeline of prospects, effectively promoting the event, secure paid attendee registrations, and ensure VIP attendees have a seamless experience. As the main point of contact for high level attendees, this role will also be responsible for collecting feedback from our core audience and working closely with the SVP to shape future product offerings, pricing and attendance strategy.

This attendee role will drive attendance forward by bringing hundreds of new VIP buyers to each show while growing and scaling relationships with existing key partners.

Reporting directly to the SVP, the ideal candidate for the Attendee Acquisition & Partnership Director will have proven experience using a data-driven approach to making decisions, setting a clear sales strategy and operating plan to hit ambitious attendee target goals. Additionally, this role will best suit a builder who enjoys reimagining processes, systems, and structures.

This position can be performed from any of our US-based offices or remotely from anywhere within the US.

Responsibilities:
  • Map strategy:?Set territory, field/outside selling, and segment/account strategies. Develop and execute a sourcing plan to reach executive-level prospects across both the cannabis and ancillary supporting industries. Set future attendee targets in conjunction with the SVP
  • Focus on data:?Build upon our existing metrics to benchmark success and use data to guide decisions for future growth. Effectively track and report on pipeline development and sales targets.
  • Plan programs:?Partner with the SVP on planning key initiatives to drive opportunities and movement through the sales funnel, often acting as the voice of the customer, providing real-time feedback for further product development
  • Analyze & React to Trends: Identify new products, trends, market segment, ancillary industries and opportunities to increase partnership revenue or attendance where appropriate; provide consistent communication to management, team, and clients regarding challenges and opportunities
  • Build Relationships: Maintain established attendee / partner base while identifying new attendees / partners through prospecting and timely fulfillment of customer requests
  • Customer Support: Provide white-glove support to VIP attendees pre-event, onsite, and post-event, including onsite event management support
  • Team Player: will be required to have own book of business and jump in and supplement team as necessary, making sales calls and presentations
Qualifications:
  • Attendee acquisition, B2B sales or brand partnership experience with a proven ability to create and execute strategies that drive growth for a fast-paced, evolving industry
  • Experience and/or knowledge of cannabis, media, or the tradeshow industries is a plus, but not required
  • Experience implementing and managing a straightforward, efficient, technology-enabled process and structure that drives growth
  • Proven ability to rally a team and leverage data and methodical execution to meet ambitious goals
  • Strong sales/negotiation skills with a proven track record with targeting appropriate prospects and closing sales while effectively building relationships
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, content, finance, and other leaders across the organization
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, evolving environment, with a proven ability to effectively pivot to incorporate new information and develop new strategies to ensure goals are met
  • Experience successfully penetrating senior level decision maker audience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with, influence, and manage Executive-level customers
  • Market research capabilities, with the ability to synthesize research and analyze data to understand the markets and audience we serve
  • Sales or audience acquisition experience in events or media; recruiting experience in a rapidly evolving industry is also applicable
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills and ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while managing tight deadlines and maintaining keen attention to detail and high standard of quality
  • Experience with both inbound and outbound marketing from start to finish is a plus
  • Mix of a creative and analytical mindset with the ability to conceive innovative campaigns and drive content strategy to increase paid attendees utilizing data, market research, and industry trends.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office programs, Salesforce or a similar CRM. A2Z knowledge a plus.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to analyze and present data
  • Attend competitive or industry related events
  • Adopt a pan-Emerald mindset and be a collaborative partner with other Emerald brands (i.e. pass leads to other appropriate brands)
  • Travel required up to 25%

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Target Compensation: $80,000-90,000 (Sales Incentive Eligible)

Please note that this range reflects a reasonable estimate of the target compensation for this position. This range may ultimately vary based on a candidates qualifications and may be higher where required by applicable law.
