POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Specialist is tasked with supporting the overall general accounting functions. This role includes overseeing, implementing, and maintaining accounting systems, procedures, and policies. The position ensures the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data and serves as a liaison between the company, agencies, vendors, and CPA auditors to provide necessary information and maintain proper records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide comprehensive accounting support, including Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (G/L), tax payments, special reports for agency metrics, and month-end reports.
• Handle filing, scanning, and journal entries.
• Compile and post online commission statements.
• Assist in the budget process as needed, particularly for assigned agencies.
• Manage financial statement preparation, month-end, and quarterly closings.
• Perform basic accounting procedures, including month-end closing, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, fixed assets, and margin analysis.
• Communicate with carriers and agencies to address past-due invoices and provide weekly status updates to management.
• As needed, reconcile client billing, carrier reports, commission, and expense variances.
• Provide guidance to agencies on accounting, billing, and expense issues.
• Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Business-related field preferred
• Expertise in QuickBooks
• High proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel
• Efficient multitasking abilities
• High attention to detail, ability to take directions, self-check, and follow up on work

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• An undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred
• 5 years of experience in agency or carrier insurance preferred
• Knowledge of Applied Epic (insurance management platform) is a plus
