The Workers' Compensation Specialist is responsible for facilitating access to this practice for the Workers' Compensation patients in regard to communications and required authorizations.
This is an in-office position
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of state and local workers' compensation laws and rulings is necessary.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and medical practice software
- Minimum of one year of general clerical work experience, preferably in a medical office or hospital medical records department.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and Confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Must be able to operate office equipment including but not limited to printer, copier, and fax machine.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, time management skills, and accurate typing and data entry skills required.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Professional and courteous phone demeanor.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to attend work on a daily basis and in a timely fashion.
- Coordinates follow up services authorized for the Workers' Compensation patients via clinical orders
- Obtains appropriate authorization for the surgical patient who has Workers' Compensation
- Coordinate the exchange of patient notes to insurance companies, case managers and employers
- Report all work status updates to the adjuster, case manager and/or employer
- Receive and resolve Workers' Compensation phone calls in accordance with department policy and procedure
- Communicate pertinent information with the attending physician
- Review records in order to facilitate the physician narrative report and scheduling of depositions, as directed
- Maintain a pleasant, cooperative demeanor while performing all duties
