Your Role: Ensuring Equipment EfficiencyAs a Traveling Heavy Duty Scraper Mechanic at Emery Sapp & Sons, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment across multiple locations. Your expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems will be crucial in minimizing downtime and ensuring operational reliability.
Responsibilities
- On-Site Maintenance and Repair: Travel to various job sites to perform maintenance and repairs on scrapers and other heavy equipment. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on-site. Perform preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime. Conduct emergency repairs to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Hydraulic and Electrical Systems: Maintain and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, and cylinders. Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and control systems.
- Engine Work: Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines. Rebuild or replace engines as necessary.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed. Document parts used, labor hours, and work completed. Communicate effectively with site managers and supervisors regarding equipment status and any necessary repairs.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while on-site. Ensure all work complies with industry standards and manufacturer specifications. Conduct safety inspections of equipment and report any hazards or unsafe conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a heavy-duty mechanic, with a focus on scrapers.
- Experience with various brands and models of scrapers (e.g., Caterpillar, John Deere).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy parts and equipment.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay on-site for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- Willingness to travel occasionally to different job sites as required.
