Emma's Torch DC is Hiring a Culinary Instructor Near Washington, DC

Position Summary 

Culinary Instructor’s are chiefly responsible for the execution of Emma’s Torch culinary curriculum to students in the first five weeks of the program, as well as culinary educational outcomes overall. The Culinary Instructor implements the Emma's Torch curriculum through hands-on instruction with students, assesses their skills and provides feedback as needed. 

This role works collaboratively with both Operations and Program staff to ensure outcomes are reached both for students and the operations. 

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead: Culinary Instruction (60%)
    • Responsible for all culinary instruction in first 5 weeks of the DC Area program, including lesson planning and assessment
    • Responsible for all students having skills they need to move into service, as demonstrated through assessment and observation 
    • Liaise directly with FOH manager on hospitality curriculum in order to ensure effective scheduling and classroom management
    • Works closely with Teaching Chefs on ensuring all students are meeting their educational outcomes. Collaboratively provides feedback on both student performance and curriculum
    • Lead on student graduation, including: menu planning, ordering and coordination with operations team with a target of each student having a culminating dish and a prepared presentation
    • Contributes to overall curriculum growth and development under the supervision of the Culinary Director
  • Support: Operations (20%)
    • Responsible for CPG production scheduled during the classroom portion of the program, as well as integration of CPG into curricular outcomes as a whole
    • Communicate regularly with Teaching Chefs and Managers about inventory, BOH operations and staffing
    • Support operations team in ensuring updated SOPs based on staff and guest feedback, trends in service, student experience and performance 
    • Support service team with catering production and BOH vacation coverage as needed 
  • Support: Community Engagement (20%)
    • Cultivate ongoing relationships with community partners that drive towards employment opportunities and social venture growth in the DMV area.
