Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.

This position will work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team that engages physicians, therapists, psychologists, and engineers in observational and interventional patient-based research related to pre-term infants and young children with cerebral palsy or motor delays.

The Staff Scientist will support clinical pediatrics research, including study coordination, assessment, regulatory documentation, and data quality and reporting. This role will also assist in the development and delivery of training programs for a wide range of audiences and skill levels.

KEY RESPONSIBIITIES:

  • Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
  • Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Will be required to review literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
  • May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD
  • OR Master's degree and two years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab .
  • OR Bachelor's degree and four years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
  • Laboratory experience should be related to area of assignment.
  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates should have excellent scientific writing and strong oral communications skills, as well as the ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and collegially with colleagues.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational training materials to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience developing posters and data presentations at conferences and workshops.
  • The ideal candidate will also have a background in kinesthesiology and motor development as well as experience working with families who have an infant or child with cerebral palsy, other motor related conditions, or special needs – especially in clinical or research settings.
  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in Kinesiology or a related field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
