Description

Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Technology Development Librarian (TDL) is responsible for supporting, updating, and developing software used in the ongoing research and access agenda of Pitts Theology Library, a unit of Candler School of Theology. The TDL will partner with reference librarians, archivists, researchers, and IT professionals to identify, build, and maintain solutions for the library’s rapidly growing digital collections, platforms, and projects. The current portfolio of library technologies includes WordPress, OmekaS, Opensolr, Quire, and Reclaim Hosting. Many of these systems integrate with other technology systems used at Emory. The TDL will also play a key role in project teams that leverage digital technology to provide access for library patrons, enhance research on library collections, and allow collaboration between the library and its various constituencies. The TDL may also consult with patrons, notably Emory students and faculty, on the integration of digital technologies into learning and research. In their work, the TDL will coordinate with other units at the University, including the Emory University Libraries, the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, and the Candler IT team.

The TDL may supervise the work of student assistants.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years working with technology in an academic and/or library setting
  • Experience with web development and related tools, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience supporting and developing for content management systems, such as WordPress and Omeka/OmekaS
  • Experience with server management, particularly in a cloud environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively in a software team environment with diverse constituencies
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, particularly in the documentation of software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate education in theology, religious studies, or a related field
  • Experience developing software functionality leveraging RESTful APIs and JSON
  • Working knowledge in one or more server-side programming languages, specifically, PHP, Java, Ruby, and Python
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services, particularly S3, Glacier, and EC2
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Linux, Apache/Tomcat, Solr, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and PHP
  • Experience working in an academic library
