Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general supervision, assists the veterinarians and researchers in surgery and radiology, animal care, treatments, and diagnostic and preventative procedures.
  • Maintains medical records and inventory.
  • Provides non-surgical technical assistance to researchers as directed.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • The daily responsibilities and activities of a Managed Breeding Services Veterinary Technician II include:
    • Provide pairing, weaning, genotyping, maintenance, and transport of colony-managed animals.
    • Perform animal procedures such as biopsies, sample collection, and treatment administration to colony animals.
    • Database entry for colony-managed animals.
    • Additional duties as needed to maintain the health and success of the managed breeding animals.
    • MBS primarily manages mice and rats but work with other rodents and rabbits housed in the Emory SOM Division of Animal Resources could be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience as a veterinary technician.
  • Or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as an animal care technician.
  • Or graduation from a two year veterinary technician program and one year of veterinary technician experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and experience working with breeding mice.
  • Coursework, training, or strong interest in genetics.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
