Empire is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Malvern, PA

Overload Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's degree in an engineering, technical, or science-related field (or demonstrated equivalent).
  • Experience: 4-7 years of experience in a related field. Co-op, intern, and/or prior laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
  • Basic understanding of statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment).
  • Comfortable with the use of power tools and basic machinery.
  • Understanding of company policies and corporate structure.

Responsibilities:

As a Lab Technician, you will safely perform advanced specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning gypsum boards (fire, lightweight, mold and moisture) and its raw materials.

Job Objectives:

  • Support engineers and scientists in the R&D team with their projects.
  • Execute and/or support commercial and manufacturing support requests.
  • Manage and document projects by creating concise and technically accurate summary reports effectively with supervision.
  • Conduct hands-on experimental work and ensure all products are tested and approved according to the company SOP.
  • Perform research and a variety of experiments, make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Identify opportunities that could impact sustainability with innovative solutions and work with R&D, operations, and technical teams to develop and deploy.
  • Understand/learn material properties which are critical to quality attributes.
  • Play an active role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks, etc.
  • Demonstrate an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work in a laboratory environment, building relationships and establishing support to execute projects.
  • Prepare/process material samples including:
  • Active involvement in standard and exploratory experiment design for gypsum board.
  • Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples.
  • Collect, analyze, and report scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment through an effective plan/coordination.
  • Perform preliminary statistical data analysis and present results and maintain a laboratory notebook.
  • Maintain laboratories and equipment including setup, operation, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment or instruments. Lead troubleshooting initiatives and machine repair efforts. Interact with facilities and outside contractors for machine and equipment repairs.
  • Perform 5S duties, order and inventory materials to maintain supplies.
  • Create concise and technically accurate summary reports of your work.
  • Understand/learn material properties which are critical to quality attributes.
  • Continuously evaluate the workplace for safety concerns and ensure behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
