Position SummaryThe Plant Maintenance Engineer position at Empower Pharmacy is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our critical manufacturing operations. You will oversee the maintenance of a wide array of equipment essential to our pharmaceutical production, including sterilization tunnels, filling machines, lyophilizers, and all Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Your responsibility extends to maintaining the integrity of our clean rooms and utility systems, such as purified water and pure steam generation, vital for meeting stringent regulatory standards.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Maintains all manufacturing equipment (washing, sterilization tunnel, vial filling and capping machine, lyophilizer, autoclave, packaging machines and plant utility systems including HVAC.
  • Upkeep of the plant includes clean rooms and clean utilities such as purified water system, water for injection generation system and pure steam generation system/plants including control systems.
  • Provides engineering support across functional departments for continuous operation.
  • Documents routine maintenance and keeps accurate records per cGMP requirements.
  • Schedules activities based on priorities and ensured all documentation is compliant with good documentation practices.
  • Identifies and resolves potential safety hazards. Performs troubleshooting for all manufacturing/process equipment.
  • Understands quality systems including change control, deviations, corrective action preventative actions and failure mode, effects and criticality analysis.
  • Develops preventive maintenance schedules and/or procedures.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and executes periodic maintenance work and maintains spares and consumables for min-max and re-order levels.
  • Coordinates calibration activities with internal and external agencies as needed.
  • Manages inventory control, procures replacement parts, tools, and supplies through purchasing, and conducts physical parts inventories, as necessary.
  • Records and documents working history on all equipment for facilities and engineering via a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Increases safety awareness and addresses safety issues, concerns, and ensures that equipment meets all relevant health, safety and environment requirements.
  • Participates in validation activities and their documentation such as validation summary report as per cGMP Regulations.
  • Optimizes processes by introducing innovative technology, automation, and their implementation.
  • Performs gap analysis and remediation plans.
  • Contributes to continuous process improvement efforts to reduce scrap, cycle times, improve efficiency, and eliminate waste within the production environment. Advises management on significant maintenance trends affecting the facility and proposals for improvement.
  • Responsible for the entire life cycle of manufacturing equipment Validation including User Requirements Specifications, Functional Requirements Specifications Vendor Assessment and System Design Specifications or different tasks be performed as assigned with or without notice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills
  • Ability to upkeep manufacturing & facility equipment and related documentation.
  • Proven ability to achieve process optimization by introducing innovative technology, automation, and their effective implementation.
  • Able to write standard operating procedures using equipment manuals and executing validation protocols.
  • Organized self-starter with advanced problem-solving ability.
  • Knowledge of all injectable process equipment, electrical systems, electrical control systems, HVAC systems, and water system.
  • Must be trained and qualified to enter an International Organization for Standardization classified cleanroom under operator standards.
  • Ability to complete and maintain gown and gloving requirements to enter classified cleanroom within 15 minutes of notice from manufacturing.
  • Ability to work in a clean manner in manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools/equipment: such as hand drill, forklift, and scissor lift.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English verbally and orally.
  • Ability to research parts, drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.

Experience And Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in injectable pharmaceutical industries required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience working through Food and Drug Administration audits.
  • Experience with CMMS.
  • Experience in performing National Institute of Standards and Technology Calibrations recommended.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
