EMSL is Hiring a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) Near South Portland, ME
EMSL Analytical is seeking a Laboratory Analyst specializing in Asbestos analysisfor its South Portland, ME laboratory location. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Experienced analysts are welcomed to apply.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparation and analysis of bulk, air, water, and soil for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
Record data in a specified manner
Some clerical work may be involved including login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed
May be required to cross train in other areas of the laboratory to meet business demands
Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science: Geology, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry background is required
Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training a plus
Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
One to two years of asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM experience is a plus, but not required
Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
Work independently and with a team
Able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments
Good communication, computer, typing, and organizational skills
