We are seeking to fill a Water Resources Specialist position in San Luis Obispo, CA.

The Water Resources Specialist and Stormwater/Water Quality position will consist of monitoring, report writing, and evaluating project site's compliance. As a Water Resource Specialist you will work with clients to provide environmentally sound solutions to their stormwater/water challenges.

Water Resources Specialist Position:

Site fieldwork, includes: traversing throughout project sites to understand the current conditions and activities, observing construction impacts, and performing trainings for on site personnel. Evaluating environmental compliance includes: issuing corrective actions based on deficiencies found on site that do not meet Construction General Permit (CGP), Regional Water Quality Control Board Permit (401 Permit) or the Army Corps of Engineers Permit regarding water quality (404 Permit) requirements. Water Quality and Stormwater Monitoring includes: collecting data on permit parameters, comparing data with permit parameters, and documenting visual observations. Report writing will vary depending on the local, state, and federal entities that have oversite for the project's compliance.

Hybrid Position - Onsite Monitoring and Offsite Report Writing

Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Water quality monitoring and sampling, technical report writing, data entry, and working with clients to provide environmentally sound solutions for their water-quality challenges.
  • Data collection and quality control capabilities.
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Write detailed reports (type 1, type 2, type 7, and type 8 water quality monitoring reports) with photo logs per 401 permit requirements.
  • Accurately follow procedures with attention to detail. Well organized. Ability to read and write grammatically correct technical documents.
  • Use, maintain, and calibrate sampling equipment such as a Turbidity Meter, Dissolved Oxygen Meter, and pH meter.
  • Conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and/or in rugged terrain.
  • Must be comfortable working on construction sites and around heavy equipment.
  • Must be comfortable communicating with construction personnel.

A Qualified Candidate will:

  • Accurately follow procedures with attention to detail.
  • Stay organized.
  • Have the ability to read and interpret lengthy permits and site documents and write grammatically-correct technical documents.
  • Attend meetings with clients at the request of project managers to provide expertise and consultation related to compliance and environmental resources.
