Job DescriptionSenior Counsel - Regulatory, Environmental, Health And Safety Schaumburg, IL or Decatur, IL Primient is seeking an experienced attorney to join our legal team as Senior Counsel - Regulatory, Environmental, Health and Safety. The person in this role will be responsible for providing sophisticated, best in class legal advice to all levels of the organization. This attorney will support, collaborate, and guide business partners on state and federal regulatory matters applicable to our corn wet milling and biomanufacturing operations, including Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") requests for Information and investigations, permitting issues, Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA") investigations and workplace safety and health compliance requirements, and any other environmental, health and safety ("EHS") regulations impacting our business.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and advise management on legal aspects of the Company's environmental regulatory compliance and responses to any enforcement actions including investigating and responding to requests for information, notices of complaint, notices of violation and citations from EPA, OSHA and EHS related agencies.
  • Provide primary legal advice regarding a wide range of health and safety regulatory, compliance and policy issues, including auditing, incident response and government reporting.
  • Supervise and manage outside counsel and consultants engaged to assist with environmental litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Participate in meetings and proceedings with regulatory agencies.
  • Identify and advise on environmental permitting and other environmental risks in the context of operations, commercial transactions, and new projects. Collaborate with EHS team on Company-wide EHS initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with EHS business partners to assess legal impact on major business decisions.
  • Counsel and train internal business partners on environmental, health and safety regulations, OSHA compliance and safety-related internal investigations.
What You'll Need
  • 7 years of legal experience primarily focused on regulatory, environmental and workplace safety and health issues, preferably with experience in manufacturing, food manufacturing or the corn wet milling industry.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • The candidate will have inhouse work experience in combination with experience at a law firm or a state or federal agency responsible for environmental, safety, and health regulatory oversight.
LocationThis position is located in either our Decatur or Schaumburg, Illinois offices. Some travel to our other manufacturing plants will be required as needed.
