Job Title: Distribution Supervisor

Department: Distribution

Reports To: Division Manager, Supply Chain

Direct-Hire

$55-65k/year

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY: Responsible for managing all the shipping, receiving, warehouse and inventory control activities at the Mentor location. Directly supervises employees in the Distribution Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Provide training, leadership, and direction; establish, guide, and develop a team working relationship among the department members. Serve as back-up to all other personnel within department.
  • Print, prioritize and assign picking slips for customer orders; ensure established procedures are followed.
  • Communicate with other departments to inform of procedure changes and other distribution activities that affect them.
  • Responsible for certifying and maintaining relationships with department vendors and carriers, including negotiating rates and service. Initiate, follow-up and collect on freight claims for Mentor location.
  • Maintain clean, neat, and orderly operation, including yard and warehouse areas. Store and maintain physical inventory.
  • Inventory control responsibilities include: stock transfers, preparing and managing semiannual physical inventory procedures, for all warehouse locations. Assign teams, give instruction, collect data, investigate, or direct the investigation of discrepancies, make adjustments to computer as necessary. Provide cycle counts as required.
  • Initiate procedures and department projects as required.
  • Requisition all supplies, packaging, and shipping materials as necessary through most economical costs.
  • Work directly with finance and the cost accountant to provide weekly cycle counts as well as come up with solutions and plans to reduce losses and gains through cycle counts.
  • Maintain all forklift, to include: scheduling PMs, call for service when forklifts are down, and maintain accurate logs on all lifts.
  • Responsible for reviewing and controlling Department budget.
  • Responsible for compliance with Company policies and procedures, including safety and quality, in supervised areas.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2-year experience within a distribution environment

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to create BOLs, Commercial Invoices, SLIs and other shipping related documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, and area.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use Windows Office Programs.
