Engineering Talent Solutions is Hiring a Quality Manager Near Willoughby, OH

Title: Quality Manager

Location: Willoughby, Ohio

Direct Hire

Starting Pay: Up to $115k; depending on experience

Quality Manager

Do you enjoy working with others, solving problems, and seeing the results of your efforts? Would you like to work in an environment where teamwork is embraced, where we strive to achieve wins for our customers. Do you have one or more years of recent experience in an AS9100 shop?

We are looking for someone to join our Team as our Quality Manager.

We intend to be the next-best thing to an in-house CNC shop for our Customers, providing uncommon and proactive attention to their needs. As part of your job, you will:

  • Manage and maintain the AS9100/ISO9000 QA systems
  • Identity and quarantine non-conforming product
  • Manage a Team of 3-4 Quality Techs
  • Support Floor Inspection for our 50 CNC Machines
  • Establish and maintain Customer and Vendor relationships
  • Assist and support First Article Inspection requirements
  • Need to be comfortable with inspection procedures and GD&T
  • Maintain our inspection equipment Calibration System
  • Manage the Corrective Action Response (CAR) System

That sounds like a lot (and it is), but you won’t be expected to do all of that right away. You will be surrounded by a Team that will help you achieve these skills. Everyone here has an open-door policy and a willingness to help. You’ll be expected to ask questions and acquire new skills. Having humility and a strong desire to learn and grow is how we have continually expanded our partnerships with both our Customers and Vendors to build a level of service that feels like an in-house CNC shop to our Customers.

The people who love this job and do well in this position are:

Detail-Oriented – Hundreds of different part numbers and thousands of different dimensions are checked every month by our Quality Team. For our Customers, even the smallest details matter. We’ve built systems and standards to keep things in solidly in place and it will require disciplined execution by you and our Team to continue our strong Quality performance with our Customers.

Have Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills – Ours is a people and relationship business. While everyone wants every part to be good, that’s not the reality we live in, as Quality in manufacturing is about managing variation. Your ability to have important (and sometimes difficult!) conversations with Customers, Vendors and internal Teammates about the status of projects is a big part of the Quality Manager role. You’ll get help from our Engineering Team as you look to balancing the practical application and functionality of parts with the drawing requirements so we can provide important feedback to all concerned parties. Maintaining emotional control and de-escalating drama in challenging situations, especially with Customers, has helped both grow trust and grow our business.

Time Management – A lot falls on the plate of our Quality Manager and a significant portion of it is unscheduled based on the shop floor and our Customer needs. Establishing clear plans for you and the Quality Team will be important along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Executing the plan while being flexible to adjust as new priorities emerge will help our Team provide timely action and communication for our Customers.

Education, Skills & Experience:

5 years of experience in Quality and/or Manufacturing Management

Understanding of GD&T is preferred

Experience in Plate Inspection is preferred

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field is a plus

A Certified Quality Auditor qualification is a plus

What We Do

Defense and Aerospace supply chains can be difficult to manage for larger manufacturing companies. We are a machine shop that is the next-best thing to an in-house CNC shop for their Customers. With an uncommon level of proactive communication and a partnership mindset, we are the trusted supplier of critical components and assemblies for a wide variety of projects and systems.

What is the compensation:

Our compensation package is in the top half of the industry. We hire solid Teammates, train you well, pay you generously, and want you to stay. This position is a full-time, salaried position.

  • Base salaries: Your salary will be determined by your level of experience and adjusted according to your performance (“performance” is more than the number of hours you work). The more you grow your skills and contribute to Bowden’s success, the higher your salary.
  • Bonuses: Your bonus will be calculated using a blend of individual metrics and company metrics. If you perform in outstanding ways, helping the company grow sales and profitability, you will share in the benefits of that growth.

A more detailed compensation conversation will be had if you are called for an interview.

What are the benefits:

This full-time position includes full benefits. As of January 2024, benefits for every full-time position are:

  • Medical insurance through United Healthcare (HSA & PPO Plans Available)
  • Voluntary dental insurance through Delta Dental
  • Life insurance / accidental death and dismemberment insurance
  • A 401k program with up to a 4% company match (fully vested upon deposit)
  • 9 company-wide paid holidays.
  • Vacation time accumulates monthly starting at the rate of 2 weeks per year.
  • Clothing & Apparel – Cintas uniform service is available and Lands End apparel is available for purchase. Normal attire in the shop is casual with company logo shirts and comfortable pants. Teammates are provided with an initial five shirts.

A more detailed description will be provided if you are called for an interview.
