Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment. Documents patient care given. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family. Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Understands and practices within RN scope of practice.
Notifies Physician promptly of complications, change in condition or adverse medication reaction. Acts as a patient advocate by utilizing chain of command when appropriate and document same. Maintains patient safety, which includes prevention of falls, skin breakdown, maintaining aseptic technique, positioning of patients and use of restraints (per hospital policy). Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information. Shares information only in accordance with policy. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending departmental staff meetings, in-service classes and assigned committee meetings. Demonstrates lifting and transfers, utilizing appropriate body mechanics. Demonstrates willingness to be flexible in work schedule to meet patient and/or facility needs.
QualificationsAssociate’s degree X Required
BSN Preferred
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
BCLS required
ACLS within 30 days
PALS or ENPC (within 6 mths of emp)
TNCC (within 6 mths of emp)
Basic computer knowledge
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Exhibits knowledge of the proper use of the Language Line.
